Work will begin next month to replace the 97-year-old bridge that carries state Route 27 over a tributary of Oil Creek in Titusville.

The bridge is located on state Route 27 (West Central Avenue) in Oil Creek Township between Newland Avenue and Pastorius Road.

Construction will include replacement of the existing 19-foot-long reinforced concrete slab bridge with a single-span, 19-foot-long reinforced box culvert. Work will also include adding a waterproof membrane and updated guide rails.

The work is expected to start June 10, and should be completed by July 16, weather permitting.

Separate car and truck detours will be posted. The car detour will use Johnson Road/Hydetown Gresham Road, state Route 408 and state Route 8. The truck detour will use state Route 198, state Route 77 and state Route 8.

The current bridge was built in 1922 and is classified as poor condition. It is used by 5,000 vehicles per day, on average.

The contractor is Horizon Construction Group Inc. of Sandy Lake, Pennsylvania. The contract cost is $623,719, which is to be paid entirely with state funds.

This project was made possible by Act 89, Pennsylvania’s transportation funding plan.

PennDOT urges motorists to slow down when driving in work zones, and also to be alert to changing conditions, avoid distractions and to pay attention to signs and flaggers.

Well this is going to cause problem hunting for Bigfoot. You know it will escape by crossing the creek. This is just another roadblock for us, but we will not be deterred!
