The Crawford County Election Board gave final certification to the ballots cast in the 2019 primary election on Tuesday morning.

According to the board, no challenges were raised against any of the votes cast, and as such, the tallies will remain the same as the unofficial tabulations released on June 12.

This year’s round of voting saw a high number of write-in votes cast across various elections. Crawford County Commissioner John Amato, who served on the Election Board, estimated that out of the 12,616 ballots cast, roughly 8,000 had write-in votes.

Locally in Titusville, Roger Gordon, Jon Crouch and Dennis Peden made it to the November general election race for Titusville City Council through write-in votes. Gordon and Peden claimed the second and third balloted spot on the Republican ticket with 234 and 224 votes, respectively, while the trio were nominated for the three available spots on the Democratic side without much competition.

Gordon and Peden notably beat out the two Republican incumbent candidates, Bill Adelman and Heather Leonardi, to earn their spots on the ballot. Other people running in the race included James Elliott and fellow write-in candidate Dewayne Blair. With Tuesday’s certification, Gordon and Peden’s victory in the primary election are officially confirmed, pending anything unforeseen occurring.

Election Board member Becky Little said that the full results will be put online on the county’s website within the week. In addition, the minutes and physical results are also viewable at the Crawford County Courthouse.

Due to the nature of the Election Board’s operations, the minutes for all of the group’s meetings are grouped together. This is because the board only recessed at the end of each meeting, rather than adjourned. Tuesday’s meeting was the first time the board officially adjourned in quite a while.

Look out Titusville. Change is in the air. And, it is a good thing. The rest of the incumbents should be concerned as they are definitely on notice now.
