Edward Paul Cavanaugh, 78, of Mesa Arizona, passed peacefully Tuesday evening Feb. 26, 2019.

Born on Aug. 13, 1940, in Oil City, Pennsylvania, Ed was the third born child of Richard and Helen Cavanaugh. He graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in 1958. Upon graduation, Ed entered the Navy after which he enrolled at Clarion University. As a United States veteran, Ed was a standing member of the VFW Post 5958 as well as the American Legion.

Ed is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mina Hyde Cavanaugh. They have two children, Jim and wife, Sue, of Wadsworth, Ohio, and Shannon and husband, Carlos, of Mesa, Arizona.

Ed was loved by his five grandchildren; Matt, Tim, Nikki, Phil, Derek and one great-granddaughter Lainey. The grandchildren’s spouses, many nieces, nephews, and extended family members also carry Ed in their hearts. Ed is survived by his sister, Chris Hoag, of Titusville, and brother, George Cavanaugh, of Rouseville. Besides Ed’s parents and in-laws, Ed was preceded in death by his brothers, Dick and Joe Cavanaugh.

Over the years Ed enjoyed many pastimes, such as hunting, fishing and reading. Being an avid reader, he spent many hours at their mountain cabin in an environment surrounded by nature. In a life well-lived, Ed will always be remembered for his wit, humor and those who were blessed to know him will have everlasting memories.

There will be a celebration of Ed’s life in Mesa Arizona, followed by a remembrance as well in Pennsylvania at a later date. Interment will occur in Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to Hospice of Crawford County, in Titusville.
