Zora S. Kurtz, 87, of Pleasantville, formerly of Blairs Corners, Knox, Pennsylvania, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 7, 2019.

Born on Feb. 18, 1932, in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Theodore and Katherine Sonavec Sokolovich.

She was a graduate of McKees Rocks High School and Duquesne University where she earned her degree in elementary education. 

She was a member of St. Michael Church in Fryburg and also attended St. Titus Church in Titusville.

Zora was a homemaker, a substitute teacher and also taught piano lessons for more than 50 years. She enjoyed spending time with her children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In 1955, she was married to Cyril Kurtz, her lifetime friend and partner; and he preceded her in death on July 12, 2015. Also surviving are her seven children: Mary Kurtz Klinger and her husband, James, of Harrisburg; Susan Kurtz Batson and her husband, W. Brayton “Buck,” of Pleasantville; Theresa Kurtz and her husband, Rick Chew, of Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania; Cyril George Kurtz and his wife, Chang Kum Cha “Hyun Hee,” of Augusta, Georgia; Adelle Kurtz Benjelloun and her husband, Najib, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; Cynthia Kurtz and her husband, Paul Fernhout, of Edinburg, New York; and Beverly Kurtz Folmer and her husband, James, of Germantown, Maryland. Also surviving are 10 grandsons, eight granddaughters, five great-granddaughters and four great-grandsons. In addition, she is survived by a sister, Mary Warden, of Bangor, Maine; a brother, Theodore Sokolovich and his wife, Joan, of Monaca, Pennsylvania; two sisters-in-law Grace Kurtz Konchar, and Kathy Wurms Kurtz, as well as many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. 

Zora was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Milan and Eli Sokolovich, and sisters Diane Kaldon and Theodora Sokolovich.

Friends will be received at the Faller Funeral Home Inc. in Fryburg, on Tuesday, from  7-9 p.m., and also on Wednesday, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.

Mass of a Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on thursday, at St. Michael’s Church in Fryburg, with Rev. Joseph Czkarowski, pastor presiding.

Interment will be in the St. Michael’s Cemetery following the Mass.
