Alumni Watch: Corklin breaks another Pioneers record

Brady Corklin and the Point Park University men’s track and field team took second place at the River States Conference (RSC) Championships, Friday, hosted by the Pioneers.

Corklin took second place in the javelin and broke the Point Park record with his throw of 152 feet, 11 inches. The 2017 Titusville High School graduate also finished third in the pole vault (13 feet, 7 1/4 inches) and ninth in the 400-dash (52.23 seconds).

Corklin picked up All-RSC Honors in both the pole vault and javelin.

In other track and field action, Alex and Henry Kennedy, both of Titusville, helped the Geneva College men’s track and field team win the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Championship for the third straight season, on Thursday, at Westminster College.

Alex Kennedy, a senior, took third place in the triple jump with a distance of 42 feet, 5 3/4 inches, while finishing in 16th in the triple jump. Junior Henry Kennedy finished fourth in the javelin with a toss of 160 feet, 7 inches.

Also at the PAC Championships, Thiel’s Jessa Covine, a 2014 Maplewood High School graduate, finished ninth in the 100-dash, with a time of 13.33 seconds. She also placed 13th and 22nd in the 200-dash and long jump, respectively.

Here are some other highlights from this past week of collegiate sports action:

— Adam Bleday, at 2013 Titusville High School graduate, earned his second victory on the mound, while pitching four scoreless inning across two relief appearances for the Quad Cities River Bandits baseball team. Bleday combined to strike out five hitters between Friday and Sunday against the Cedar Rapids Kernels. 

— Rebecca Worley, a 2016 graduate of Maplewood High School, took fifth place in the 3,000-steeplechase with a time of 12:52.31, at the Ashland University Alumni Open, on Friday.

— Wyatt Wright, a 2016 graduate of Maplewood High School, made two relief appearances for the Allegheny College baseball team. Wright combined to toss 3 1/3 innings, while surrendering six earned runs against Thiel and Wittenburg.

— University of Hawaii’s Malissa Humanic, a 2016 graduate of Titusville High School, logged a personal-best of 148 feet, 10 inches, in the hammer throw at the Steve Scott Invitational, on Friday.
