Second Harvest mobile food pantry is sponsored by Pleasantville United Methodist Church, in Pleasantville.

It is a free grocery distribution open to all ages who meet income requirements.

The next distribution will be held July 20, from noon to 1:30 p.m., at the Pleasantville Volunteer Fire Department, 157 W. State St., Pleasantville. Pre-registration is required.

Proof of residency must be presented.

Leave a message at the church office (589-7385) after June 28, to apply.

Parade applications

Anyone who would like to take part in the parade can get an application from Ginny Mancastroppa, at, or call (814) 403-0849.

Pleasantville Book Club

The Pleasantville Book Club will meet July 7, at 6 p.m., at Coal Oil Johnny’s, in Pleasantville.

The selection for July is “In the Woods,” by Tana French. This is a gripping thriller from the New York Times bestseller list, and the acclaimed author of “Broken Harbor” and “The Secret Place.” 

Whistle pig


Pleasantville VFD will hold a whistle pig tournament, on June 25. There is a fee for teams of two.

Payouts will be given to first, second, and third place.

Sign-ins start at 6 a.m., at the fire hall. Doughnuts and coffee will be provided.

The first weigh-in starts at noon, with lunch being served. Final weigh-ins will be at 6 p.m.

The 2016 Pleasantville Community Festival will be held July 17-23. The theme this year is “Ol’ Time Fireman’s Festival.”

Here’s a preview of the events that will be held at the festival:

– July 10 – Pleasantville festival pageant.

– July 19 – fish fry at the pavilion.

– July 20 – Kid’s night.

– July 21 – Car cruise-in, directed by Brad Pearson. 

– July 22 – Cake and pie baking contest, pie eating contest, and tractor pull. 

– July 23 – parade, at 4 p.m., and fireworks, at 10 p.m., by Acepyro. Midway will be by R & M Amusements.

 – June 22: National Chocolate Éclair Day.

– June 23: National Columnists Day and National Pink Day.

– June 24: Swim a Lap Day and Take Your Dog to Work Day.

– June 27: Sun Glasses Day.

Spaghetti salad

Ingredients: one box spaghetti, a variety of cut up vegetables (I use carrots, radishes, green peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, zucchini, onion), black olives, one bottle Italian dressing, 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, 1 teaspoon paprika, 1/2 teaspoon celery seed, 1/4 teasoon garlic powder.

Directions: Cook spaghetti according to package directions. Cut up vegetables to bite size bites. Add vegetables to cooked and cooled spaghetti.

In a separate bowl mix Italian dressing, parmesan cheese, paprika, celery seed and garlic powder. Pour on spaghetti and vegetables and mix well. Add black olives. Chill 3-4 hours before serving.
