Book Club

The Pleasantville Book Club will meet on Thursday, at 6 p.m., at Coal Oil Johnny’s in Pleasantville.  The selection will be “The Lost Continent,” by Bill Bryson.

Loads of Love

Loads of Love will be held on Sunday, from 3 to 6 p.m. All you have to do is bring your dirty laundry to the Pleasantville Laundromat, and Pleasantville Presbyterian Church will supply the laundry detergent, dryer sheets, and quarters.

While your clothes are drying, come over to the chapel and have a light dinner, which will be sloppy joes, potato chips, and a beverage.

There will also be activities for the children and help with their homework.

Come and enjoy dinner and great fellowship with your friends at Pleasantville Presbyterian Church. All are welcome to participate in this free event.

Ho-Ho-Ho Night 2016

This event will be held on Sunday, starting at 6 p.m. There will be a musical performance by “Necessary Experience,” and an appearance by Santa and Mrs. Claus, an activity book, and possible reappearance of Jules the Clown.

Crayons and candy canes will be distributed to all children, and hot chocolate and cookies for everyone.

Through generous donations from local businesses, civic organizations, and private individuals, the committee is sable to offer these activities to Pleasantville residents and their families without costs.

There will also be a 50/50 drawing, a side raffle, and door prizes that will be given out by ticket drawing for the adults. A donation per picture with Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus is suggested.

If you have any questions, or would like additional information, please feel free to contact Deborah Edwards, at 589-5101.

Easy microwave caramels

Ingredients: 1/4 cup butter, 1/2 cup white sugar, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup corn syrup, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk. Toppings: salt or melted chocolate.

Directions: Note –  This mixture gets very hot. Ensure there are no children underfoot when you make this.

1. Mix all ingredients in a large microwave safe bowl. Mixture will bubble up so make sure there is lots of room in the bowl. 2. Microwave on high for 6-7 minutes, stirring every 90 seconds. 3.  Pour into a small buttered dish and allow to cool completely. Cut into small squares. 4. If desired, drizzle with melted chocolate or a sprinkle of sea salt.
