Lexie Wyant

Maplewood’s Lexie Wyant won her fourth varsity girls meet of the season and paced the Tiger girls to a 15-50 victory over Meadville, Tuesday.

GUYS MILLS — In their final home meet of the season, the Maplewood Tigers cross country teams earned a split against the visiting Meadville Bulldogs in Region 3 action. Tuesday’s festivities marked the end of a five-meet home stand for the Tigers.

Lexie Wyant placed first in the varsity girls race, leading the Tigers to their third win of the campaign, while Meadville set Maplewood course records in the varsity boys heat and both junior high races.

Pacing the Maplewood girls (3-5) to a 15-50 victory, Wyant won her fourth race of the season, coming across the finish line at 22 minutes and 13 seconds. Wyant turned in her season-best time at home, dropping 23 seconds, and beat out Riley France (2nd, 22:19), who crossed the finish line nearly two minutes before Wyant in their first meet on Sept. 24 in Meadville.

Sylvianne Wright (4th, 26:53), Lisa Prenatt (6th, 28:15), Chloe Hickok (7th, 28:19) and Alaina Gallegor (8th, 33:23) also contributed to the victory, with Prenatt and Wright also turning in season-best times at Maplewood’s 3.1-mile course.

Matt Puleio (18:31) took first in the varsity boys race for Meadville, who defeated Maplewood 15-36. Puleio set a new course record, which was previously set earlier in the season by Cochranton’s Chase Miller, in 18:33. Nate Foster (6th, 21:16) was the fastest Tiger boy (0-9).

Although no teams scored in either of the junior high races, Meadville had record-setters in each race. Tate Walker (10:37) broke the junior high boys record of Maplewood’s Lincoln Kier, which was at 10:50. Megan Puleio recorded a new girls mark to beat, of 12:03, edging the previous mark of 12:08 set by Maplewood’s Laura Slagle.

Maplewood will wrap up the regular season on Thursday when the Tigers travel to Cochranton at 4 p.m. for a Region 3 meet.
