LINESVILLE — With only seven wrestlers making the trip to Linesville, the Titusville Rockets were already at a disadvantage heading into Wednesday’s match at Conneaut Area. The Eagles took four of the six contested bouts, and added three wins by forfeit to claim a 33-15 Region 2 victory over the visiting Rockets.

Landen Wolfkiel landed the only Rocket pin of the evening, as the 126-pound freshman floored CASH freshman Will Schell just before the final bell in the second period.

Nate Stearns was Titusville’s second and final victor in contested bouts. The 138-pound freshman earned a 7-1 decision over Trent Roncaglione, who placed fourth at sections last season. Stearns took control of the match with two takedowns in the opening frame and added a near-fall in the third.

Hayden Warner tallied the final six Rocket points when he won via forfeit at 145.

Three close bouts that ended in decisions fell in favor of the homestanding Eagles.

2019-20 PIAA State Qualifier Trevor Tursky beat Titusville’s Sebastian Titus in a 6-2 decision at 215, which was the first action on the mat. After neither grappler was able to score points in the first, Titus worked for an escape in the second to take a 1-0 lead into the final canto. However, Tursky finished the bout with a near-fall at the buzzer that capped off a 6-1 frame to give him the decision.

At 113, two up-and-coming freshmen took to the mat in Titusville’s Trent Rodgers and CASH’s Hunter Gould. Both entering the bout with one loss on the campaign, Gould struck first with a takedown. Taking a 2-0 lead into the second, Gould started on the bottom and earned a quick reversal. Gould added another takedown in the third to win 6-0.

Collin Hearn and Brock Covell squared off in the 152 bout. Neither wrestler was able to get position in the first before Hearn, the third-place finisher in Section 2 in 2019-20, scored the first point with an escape. Later in the second, Covell landed a takedown to hold a 2-1 advantage heading into the final frame. Covell chose bottom to begin the canto, and got an escape before Hearn tied the match a 3-3 with a takedown of his own. Hearn then let Covell escape prior to a resumption of play, and got his match-winning takedown before the sound of the final whistle.

Jake Dygert (285) pinned Titusville’s Lodge Nosko in the heavyweight bout, while Eagles forfeit victories from Kyle Lantz (120), Brady Gould (160) and Josh Anderson (189) rounded out the scoring.

Titusville (7-5 overall, 2-4 Region 2) will have a few days to prepare for the beginning of the individual postseason. The Rockets will travel to Greenville on Saturday for the District 10 Class 2A Section 2 Tournament.
