Seth Brooks

Titusville’s Seth Brooks was a member of the winning boys 200-medley and 200-free relay teams during Thursday’s Region 1 meet against Hickory.

The Titusville Rockets swimming teams completed a senior night sweep of the visiting Hickory Hornets on Thursday in Region 1 action at the THS natatorium.

The Rocket boys improved to 13-0 and clinched a share of the Region 1 title heading into their final meet of the season after beating the Hornets 93-65. Titusville’s girls team beat Hickory 98-60 and are now 7-5-1.

Frank Barger picked up individual wins in the 50- and 100-free while being a part of the victorious 200-medley and 200-free relay teams. Barger was joined by Seth Brooks, Hunter Holcomb and Trey Kirvan in the 200-medley; and Kirvan, David Hauptman and Brooks in the 200-free. Hauptman was also a double-winner in the 200-IM and 100-breast, while Sam Wright won the 100-back. Although they were exhibitioned, the 400-free relay team of Eric Reynolds, Wright, Duncan Young and Conan Young turned in a first-place time.

Barger (100-free, free in medley relay), Machail Fullerton (breast in medley relay, 100-free) and Kirvan (100-free, fly in medley relay) recorded personal-best times in their respective heats. Mitchell Baldwin (400-free), Barger (200-free relay), Brooks (100-back, back in medley relay, 200-free relay), Devon Deeter (200-free), Fullerton (200-free relay), Holcomb (breast in medley relay and 100-breast), Hauptman (200-IM, 200-free relay), Preston LaLone (50-free, 200-free relay), Kirvan (200-free relay), Evan Mullen (back in medley relay) Reynolds (200-IM), Wright (100-back, 200-free), Conan Young (200-free, 400-free, 400-free relay) and Duncan Young (400-free) all had season-best swims.

It was senior night for Baldwin, Barger, Brooks, Holcomb and Kirvan, and Titusville boys coach Kevin Dawson had kind words about the season and his seniors after the meet.

“What a blessing it has been to actually get a full season in under these circumstances,” Dawson said. “A few months ago, none of us were sure if we would even be able to have one swim meet let alone a full season. It was so fun to celebrate senior night with this group. They have all worked so hard and deserved a special night. Between the five boys that are graduating, they have a combined total of 49 years of swimming experience. Several of them came up through our terrific YMCA program and continued swimming on the high school team. After tonight’s win, the senior boys have a record of 55-1 and are on their way to a fourth region championship. I can’t say enough about his group of seniors. They certainly know how to make a coach proud.”

Sophia Sampson was the only Rocket girl to win an individual event, claiming in first in both the 50- and 100-free. Sampson teamed up with Brooke Kelley, Isabella Ongley and Emma Slocum to win the 200-medley relay and then with Kelley, Olivia Samonsky and Slocum to win the 200-free relay. Nydia Deeter, Carly Fry, Julia Johnson and Arianna Fink won the 400-free relay.

Deeter, Samonsky and Shea Titus were the three seniors honored from the Rocket girls.

Titusville will conclude its regular season on Monday at 5:30 p.m. when the Oil City Oilers come to town.
