The Titusville High School wrestling team managed eight pins in their match against Girard, landing them an easy victory, 53-19.

Despite the first win of the match going to Girard by forfeit, Titusville won 11 matches on the night. Speed seemed to be on Titusville’s mind, as many matches lasted less than two minutes. Zach Rodgers pin of Girard’s Avery Hickman took only nine seconds.

“That was our plan,” Titusville wrestling coach Joel Stearns told the Herald. “Take them down and pin them.”

Even when a pin could not be secured and things came down to decision, the Titusville boys managed to hold impressive leads many times. Parker Harvey triumphed over Joel Friend, 16-4, while Kaleb Dunlap had an eight point lead over his opponent Kane Miles.

With a decisive victory before the Fred Bell Tournament, coach Stearns is hoping that a success like this is repeatable.

“We’re going to refine what we’ve been doing, and really not change much,” He said. “[We’ll] just go into this weekend and hope the kids win some matches.”

Titusville wrestling will next compete at the Fred Bell Tournament in Grove City, Friday.
